The Yamashiro hot spring has been nurtured in a close relationship with “Hakusan (White Mountain),” a sacred mountain in the area. In the Heian period (about 1,000 years ago), the Hakusan Five Temples were completed, which came to play central roles in people’s beliefs in Hakusan. The Five Temples were placed at equal distances, and beyond them, people would admire Gozengamine, the highest peak of Hakusan. Yakuoin Onsenji, the principal one among the Five Temples, used to have several hundred branch temples. It is historically known that the area around Yakuoin Onsenji used to be called “Yakushiyama (Healing Buddha’s Mountain)” for its high spirituality, which was a place for training and learning for Buddhist monks, and at the same time, a place for healing, where the monks cured people by providing hot spring baths and preparing medicinal herbs.Beniya Mukayu is a hot-spring hotel quietly standing on a hill of this sacred Yakushiyama, on the site where the main hall of Yakuoin Onsenji was once located. At our “Entei” spa, we provide Yakushiyama treatments, which are premium mental and physical health care services using hot spring water and medicinal herbs, inheriting the spirit of traditional Yakushiyama hot spring and herbal remedies provided by local monks. Furthermore, we wanted to commit to developing Mukayu’s original amenity items that reflect the spirit of Yakushiyama, and in collaboration with Dr. Yoon Soung Choi, a prominent bio-chemist with great skill, we have accomplished the Yakushiyama amenity line. It contains minerals of the Yamashiro hot spring and various kinds of carefully selected natural ingredients. This is the amenity line of best quality we present with our whole heart.
Philosophy of Yakushiyama Amenities
