Spring quality: Sulfate spring with Calcium and Sodium
The main component of the spring is sulfite ion, and it also contains a lot of calcium and sodium as mineral components.
Guests are advised to start their treatments after soaking in hot spring water to promote the blood and lymph circulation and enhance the treatment effects.
Hot spring water has the following effects:
“Thermal effect”: as the body warms up, capillary vessels near the skin surface dilate, which promotes blood and lymph circulation. The improved circulation enhances metabolic activity and removes internal wastes and fatigue material from the body.
“Water pressure effect”: the water pressure narrows the blood vessels, stimulates blood flow from the feet upwards and invigorates blood circulation. It also compresses the diaphragm and the lungs, causing breathing activity to increase for more air, thus enhancing the cardiopulmonary function.
“Buoyancy effect”: the buoyancy effect from bathing reduces the burden on muscles and joints, releasing muscular tension and providing a deeply relaxing sensation.
“Pharmalogical effect”: both sodium and calcium components are known for their sedative effects and ability to relieve the pains of injuries, joints, muscles and gout. Sulfate ions expand blood vessels and improve blood flow, so it is said to be effective for high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis and stroke. The calcium component adheres thinly to the skin surface, which repairs and moisturize the skin. The sodium component brings moisture and hydrate the skin. The water helps create beautiful skin by preventing dryness and enhancing skin elasticity and firmness.

Yakushiyama and Spa Entei

The Yamashiro hot spring has been nurtured in a close relationship with “Hakusan (White Mountain),” a sacred mountain in the area. In the Heian period (about 1,000 years ago), the five Hakusan temples were completed, which came to play a central role in people’s beliefs in Hakusan. The Yakuoin Onsenji temple in Yamashiro thrived as the main temple among the five Hakusan Temples. The area around Yakuoin Onsenji used to be called “Yakushiyama (Healing Buddha’s Mountain)” for its high spirituality, which was a place for training and learning for Buddhist monks, and at the same time, a place for healing, where the monks cured people by providing hot spring baths and preparing medicinal herbs. Beniya Mukayu is a hot-spring hotel quietly standing on a hill of this sacred Yakushiyama, where the main hall of Yakuouin Onsenji was once located. At our “Spa Entei”, we provide “Yakushiyama treatment” and other treatments for mental and physical health care using hot spring water and medicinal herbs, inheriting the spirit of traditional Yakushiyama hot spring and herbal remedies provided by local monks.

Our signature “Yakushiyama treatment” is a mental and physical health care service using hot spring water and medicinal herbs. It is the modern application of the spirit of traditional Yakushiyama hot spring and herbal remedies provided by local monks.
We provide counseling based on the principle of the medicinal herbal matrix, “Ho, Sha, Ryu, Cho,” and prepare a custom-blended “medicinal herbal ball” and “medicinal herbal cream” according to the physical condition and constitution of each guest.

We first apply “medicinal herbal cream”* selected depending on your physical type and give massage to stimulate meridians and activate your body. Then,“medicinal herbal ball” steamed with the hot spring water of Yamashiro will be applied as hot compresses, pressed gently against the body. The “medicinal herbal ball” *and “medicinal herbal cream massage” will allow deep penetration of the herbs’ medicinal components into your body, which improves your condition. After the treatment, you will have a hot-spring footbath with medicinal herb components.
*Herbal cream – Mixture of the infusion of traditional medicinal herbs, selected oil based on the “Ho, Sha, Ryu, Cho,” principle, and a special cream containing 24 types of medicinal herbs.
*Herbal ball – Cotton-wrapped blend of traditional oriental medicinal herbs. The balls are steamed with the hot spring water of Yamashiro and used as hot compresses.

This treatment is a premium facial treatment using “Yakushiyama Amenity” and “Yakushiyama AA” anti-aging skincare line. After the use of the “Yakushiyama facial wash,” “Herbal gommage,” which is softened with the hot spring water, is used to remove waste products from your skin so that it can efficiently absorb the medicinal components. After a lift-up massage with the “Yakushiyama emulsion,” steamed “medicinal herbal ball” will be pressed gently around your neck and shoulders. This stimulates meridians running along the face, neck and shoulders and reshapes your face line. The treatment will be completed with the mask of “Yakushiyama AA Undiluted Fermented Placenta,” “Yakushiyama lotion,” and “Yakushiyama emulsion,”added by “Yakushiyama AA Placenta oil.” The active elements of the ingredients help rejuvenate your skin and recover its resilience. *IOU-stone is taken from a natural ore mined in Mt Iou, Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. It is rich in high-quality minerals. Far-infrared rays generated from the stone warm the eyes from deep inside, and negative ions relieve tension.
